Yoga for the Surfer
A Very Special Practice Series by Ateeka
from Hawaii
Meditation
Feel the warm sand underneath you as you sit in a
comfortable, cross leg seated posture. The eyes softly close and
your gaze sinks gently inward.
Begin to allow long, smooth, fluid breaths in and out
through the nose.

As you begin to breath in and out through the nose, allow
the breath to align its rhythm with that of the waves. Observe the
flow of breath in and out of the body and how it is much like the rise
and fall of the ocean swell. Resist any temptation
to change the quality of the breath at this moment – just observe
and be with your breath and the sound of the waves.
Consciously now feel the breath move more
deeply into the lungs, expand the rib cage and feel your body
moving out into the surrounding environment. Begin to feel as if
your entire body was pulsing with the rhythm of the water. Feel
the breath begin to open and enliven your heart center.
Allow your breath and the ocean to show you the nature of change
and surrender. Watch the inhale peak like a perfect glassy wave
and then curl softly into the exhale .
Observe the exhale making space for the next breath in, for
the next swell. Allow the natural sound and energy of the
ocean to be your guide today. Feel reverence and
connection to the power of the sea. Ask for your surfing session
to be an opportunity for you to further align with Divine purpose.
Ask that you may “go with the flow” and harmonize with the ocean’s
rhythmic power today. Give gratitude for this opportunity
to reconnect with Source through nature. Sit quietly in
observance for a few moments, and when you are ready, gently open the
eyes. JOYFULLY, REVERENTLY enter the water for your best surf
session ever.
